Freeze ahead, dinner time-savers

on June 18, 2012

What’s for dinner?!

Our kids get to enjoy a long break from school and maybe a little (or a lot) unfair for us, even though it’s summer time we still must go to work.

I’m always looking for ways to simplify the day-to-day chores in order to get the most summer fun!

Even though it’s summer our kids are still going to want to eat dinner every day – yes, every day they will want dinner. So we are sure to hear that dreaded question, What’s for Dinner?

One of the ways I found to simplify the dinner time process is by marinating and preparing the meat as soon as I bring it home from the grocery store, before I put it in the freezer. This way, you can just pull it from the freezer without having to decide what to do with it.

For example,

Pork Loin (or Pork Chops)- Season before putting in to freezer bag.

Seasoned Pork Loin ready for the crock pot!

Hamburger:  Make seasoned patty’s for burgers. If you have the time go ahead and make some meatballs & taco meat too.

Beef: Season your steaks for the grill.

Chicken:  Put your marinade and or BBQ sauce right in the freezer bag with the chicken.

Kabobs: Cut up your chicken, beef, italian sausage (season the beef & chicken) put in freezer bags all ready to be skewered later. While you’re at it go ahead & cut up your veggies and put in separate freezer bag.

This small step of preparing the meat before freezing saves so much time later!

Have you tried this?  If you have some dinner preparation time-savers that work well for you and your family, please feel free to share with me.

Happy Dinner Time Prep to you!
